He stared at me
Eyes across the cloud-shadowed plain
The grasses swirled about his worn boots
Licking like tongues at his breeches
And said
“I know not these feelings that bind you
That you claim tie me so solidly to thou”
He held the reins stiffly
Then pulling into the saddle
As the tears fell into the parched earth
Suckled hungrily by the yellowed blades
Thirsting daggers
“I know not the pain you suffer”
And he looked away, he looked away
Heavy his shoulders droop
A whinny broke the silence
Calling to a somber master
Whom would not meet mine eyes
“All I said before were falsehoods,
I bore no want of you”
He stared off toward far places
Something stirring in his being
He glanced at me then
Unable to fight the pull of my seeking look
Misplacing a vow to never look back
And he and I both knew
That the lies had not been spoke in seasons past
“Let me go
Let me go”
Back
