The king of fairies gave disparate glance
And he looked across this great expanse
To the men and women down below
In their buildings high and subways low
Long time it had been
since we’d walked with them
Down among the world of men
Darker and colder their world has become
Distant their eyes, the magic all gone
It used to be different,
they used to believe
Every triumph the mind could conceive
A sharpness and quickness that’d now become dull
A sparkle, a laughter that’d come from the soul
But all of that’s gone, and now few remain
Who stayed with this world, and all of its pain
And the few that are left are shadows to them
They go unnoticed by the world of men
And those who do see us, the gifted few
Are told they are wrong, that it cannot be true
So we go, forgotten, lost and alone
Feeling unwanted in a place we called home
The destruction of forests, the deserts, the caves
Is the end of our world, and the lives that we made
Now we move to the cities, for we have to try
Because those that can’t, broken, they die
An elf in a coffeehouse, signing the blues
A troll on the subway, reading the news
A dryad, alone in the forest at dark
Slowly our surrender is leaving its mark
But still we can see it, a light still remains
Still we can feel it, deep in our veins
A magic, a calling, a more beautiful thing
And someday, maybe one day, again it will sing…
