Another class project. Rather open-ended, we were told to work in metal and have some sort of concept behind it, ie not solely decorative. For some reason I got it in my head one day to make jesus out of soda cans. I felt really blasphemous doing it, but its really not supposed to be. What I wanted to bring out with this was a commentary on the commercialization and commodification of religion and the iconification of corporate symbols. Thus I ended up digging into the school can recycle bin and grabbing out coke cans. The Coca-Cola symbol is instantly recognized internationally - even as chopped up as it is here, I'm sure no one has a problem recognizing it. It is meant to be displayed as it is above, in the shadow box, reminiscent of religious pieces, with the little artificial candles. Unfortunately, that box HATES having its picture taken, so I went ahead and pulled it out to get some better shots.
